Deep Sea Group: Talking about VSATs

We would like to tell you our last considerations about marine radio and navigation equipment. Year by year the vessels fleet has acquired new devices that are helping the communication and navigation through the sea. Began with radar, MF/HF or VHF communications and later arrived GPS, AIS, SART, SSAS and so on. And what now? What will be the future equipment that every vessel will install on board?. We think it will be the VSAT systems. Why?

We think this situation is similar that on shore communications. Nowadays most of merchant vessel use small internet in order to send a pair of emails, or VoIP calls. Like the old modems that worked 14.4Kb/second, or 28.8Kb/second twenty years ago. You had to wait minutes and minutes to see a single webpage. Unbelieve thing nowadays. It is time, due advances in technology that high velocity internet is also in the sea. The difference between Fleet with rates of 150Kbps and VSAT with rates of 1Mbbps is that you can get 1-3 Gb of upload and download of data each day. Some reasons are the following:

-        Saving money. With better comuication with headoffice on shore, it is sure the vessel saving money. Better medical diagnostics with high definition pictures of some patient, fill forms on shore and send later to the Master saving him a lot of time. Emergency or security matters. And one importannt thing. Saving fuel. Future apps will give us the best route to avoid innecesary fuel cost..

-        Better life of crew. Some months far of their families or their countries will not so annoying as some years ago. Owner can give them internet in their rest time. And it will be an advantage in the hour to choose a vessel to ship them. Like the Hotels. Free wifi at present. Paying it some years ago.

-        More applications that are not discovered at present. Because it depends of your imagination. Like to install a little weather station in each vessel and know the whole world forecast. Or solve an incidence in remote thanks to the good communication between sea and vessel. That day you will see clear. Solve an incidence when the vessel keeps in deep sea without send anybody is  quite money. Money again.

-        It also is good solution in other markets like pleasure yacht, search and rescue vessels or fishing vessels each one with their particular requirements

VSAT is some years with us. But it seems this year the sales will increase a lot.

Of course we can give you the best VSAP solution in market. And we can install it. But now is not a moment to tell about our products. We suggested It is time you think about the opportunity you have to be in the first places.
